Effects of Dexamethasone combined with Cefotaxime in treatment of children with purulent meningitis
Objective:To observe effects of Dexamethasone combined with Cefotaxime in treatment of children with purulent meningitis(PM).Methods:The clinical data of 94 children with PM admitted to this hospital from September 2021 to September 2023 were retrospectively analyzed.According to different treatment options,they were divided into observation group(n=47)and control group(n=47).The control group was treated with Cefotaxime,while the observation group was treated with Dexamethasone on the basis of that of the control group.The clinical efficacy,the cerebrospinal fluid indexes(white blood cell count,protein concentration,glucose concentration)levels,the serum factors[tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),interleukin-12(IL-12),amyloid protein(SAA),matrix metalloproteinase-9(MMP-9),soluble B7 homolog 3(sB7-H3),neuron-specific enolase(NSE),central nervous system specific protein(S100β)]levels,and the incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups.Results:The total effective rate of the observation group was 95.74%,which was significantly higher than 76.60%of the control group,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).After the treatment,the cerebrospinal fluid white blood cell count,protein concentration and the serum NSE,S100β,MMP-9,sB7-H3,TNF-α,SAA and IL-12 levels in the two groups were lower than those before the treatment,and those in the observation group were lower than those in the control group;the cerebrospinal fluid glucose concentration of the two groups was higher than that before the treatment,and that of the observation group was higher than that of the control group;and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).However,there was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusions:Dexamethasone combined with Cefotaxime in the treatment of the children with purulent meningitis can improve the total effective rate of treatment,improve the levels of cerebrospinal fluid indexes,and reduce the levels of serum factors.Moreover,it is superior to single Cefotaxime treatment.
