Comparison of effects of mini-external fixator fixation and mini-plate internal fixation in treatment of patients with metacarpophalangeal fractures
Objective:To compare effects of mini-external fixator fixation and mini-plate internal fixation in treatment of patients with metacarpophalangeal fractures. Methods:The clinical data of 76 patients with metacarpophalangeal fractures admitted to this hospital from May 2020 to May 2023 were retrospectively analyzed.According to different treatment methods, they were divided into control group(n=38)and observation group(n=38).The control group was treated with mini-plate internal fixation, while the observation group was treated with mini-external fixation. The perioperative index levels, the excellent and good rate of postoperative metacarpophalangeal joint function, the joint range of motion levels before and after the surgery, the upper limb function[disabilities of the arm, shoulder, and hand(DASH)]score, the finger grip strength level, and the incidence of complications were compared between the two groups. Results:The operation time, the fracture healing time and the hospitalization time of the observation group were shorter than those of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the excellent and good rate of metacarpophalangeal joint function between the two groups(P>0.05).Three months after the surgery, the joint range of motion and Jamar grip strength of the two groups were greater than those before the surgery, and those in the observation group were greater than those in the control group;the DASH scores of the two groups were lower than those before the surgery, and that in the observation group was lower than that in the control group;and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).However,there was no significant difference in the incidence of postoperative complications between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusions:Mini-external fixation in the treatment of metacarpophalangeal fractures can improve the levels of joint range of motion and reduce the levels of perioperative indexes and the DASH scores. Moreover,it is superior to mini-plate internal fixation.
