Effects of Levetiracetam combined with Sodium valproate in treatment of patients with epilepsy
Objective:To observe effects of Levetiracetam combined with Sodium valproate in treatment of patients with epilepsy. Methods:The clinical data of 90 patients with epilepsy admitted to this hospital from June 2020 to June 2023 were retrospectively analyzed.According to different treatment methods, they were divided into control group and study group,45 cases in each group. The control group was treated with Sodium valproate, while the study group was treated with Levetiracetam on the basis of that of the control group. Both groups were treated for 12 weeks. The clinical efficacy, the seizure frequency, the seizure duration, the serum neurotransmitter indexes[neuron-specific enolase(NSE),dopamine(DA),5-hydroxytryptamine(5-HT)]levels before and after the treatment, and incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results:The total effective rate of the study group was 91.11%(41/45),which was higher than 71.11%(32/45)of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).After the treatment, the seizure frequency in the study group was lower than that in the control group, the seizure duration was shorter than that in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).After the treatment, the levels of DA and 5-HT in the study group were higher than those in the control group, the level of NSE was lower than that in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).However,there was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusions:Levetiracetam combined with Sodium valproate in the treatment of the epilepsy patients can improve the total effective rate of treatment, reduce the seizure frequency, shorten the seizure duration, and improve the levels of serum neurotransmitter indexes. Moreover,it is superior to single Sodium valproate treatment.
