Comparison of effects of one-visit root canal and multiple root canals in treatment of children with acute pulpitis
Objective:To compare effects of one-visit root canal and multiple root canal in the treatment of children with acute pulpitis. Methods:A prospective study was conducted on 78 children with acute pulpitis admitted to this hospital from March 2020 to August 2023.According to the random number table method, they were divided into control group and study group,39 cases in each group. The control group was treated with multiple root canal therapy, while the study group was treated with one-visit root canal therapy. The clinical efficacy, the occlusal function scores and the gingival crevicular fluid inflammatory factors[interleukin-8(IL-8),tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α)]levels before and 7 days after the surgery, and the incidence of complications were compared between the two groups. Results:The total effective rate of treatment in the study group was 97.44%(38/39),which was higher than 79.49%(31/39)in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).7 days after the surgery, the scores of eating inconvenience, language disorder and oral soft tissue discomfort in the two groups were lower than those before the surgery, those in the study group were lower than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).The levels of IL-8 and TNF-α in the two groups were lower than those before the surgery, those in the study group were lower than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Further,the incidence of complications in the study group was 7.69%(3/39),which was lower than 25.64%(10/39)in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusions:One-visit root canal therapy for the children with acute pulpitis can improve the clinical efficacy, improve the occlusal function, reduce the periodontal inflammatory reactions, and reduce the incidence of complications. Moreover,it is superior to multiple root canal therapy.
