Effects of Gliclazide sustained-release tablets combined with Metformin on islet function and renal function in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus
Objective:To investigate effects of Gliclazide sustained-release tablets combined with Metformin on islet function and renal function in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Methods:A prospective study was conducted on 68 elderly patients with T2DM admitted to the hospital from March 2022 to April 2023.According to the random number table method,they were divided into study group and control group,34 cases in each group.The control group was treated with Metformin hydrochloride tablets orally,while the study group was treated with Gliclazide sustained-release tablets on the basis of that of the control group.The levels of blood glucose[fasting blood glucose(FPG),2 h postprandial blood glucose(2hPG)],insulin function indexes[fasting insulin(FINS),insulin resistance index(HOMA-IR)],serum inflammatory factors[leukotriene B4(LTB4)and chemokine receptor 4(CXCR4)]and renal function indexes[cystatin C(CysC),serum creatinine(SCr),24 h urine protein(24UP)]before and after the treatment,and the incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups.Results:After the treatment,the levels of FPG,2hPG,FINS,HOMA-IR,LTB4,SCr,CysC and 24UP in the study group were lower than those in the control group,the level of serum CXCR4 was higher than that in the control group,and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).However,there was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusions:Gliclazide sustained-release tablets combined with Metformin in the treatment of the elderly patients with T2DM has a significant effect,which can reduce the blood glucose levels,reduce the insulin resistance,alleviate the body's micro-inflammatory state,and protect the renal function.Moreover,it is superior to simple Metformin treatment.
