Effects of traditional Chinese medicine massage combined with rehabilitation training on patients with spastic hemiplegia after ischemic stroke
Objective:To observe effects of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)massage combined with rehabilitation training on patients with spastic hemiplegia after ischemic stroke. Methods:A prospective study was conducted on 80 patients with ischemic stroke hemiplegia admitted to the hospital from January 2021 to January 2024.According to the random number table method, they were divided into observation group and control group,40 cases in each group. The control group received routine rehabilitation training, while the observation group received the TCM massage therapy on the basis of that of the control group. The limb spasm degree[modified Ashworth scale(MAS)],and the scores of muscle strength[manual muscle testing(MMT)],limb motor function[Fugl-Meyer motor function rating scale(FMA)]and daily life self-care ability[modified Barthel index(MBI)]were compared between the two groups before and after the intervention. Results:After 4 weeks of intervention, the degree of limb spasm in the observation group was lower than that in the control group, the MMT scores of biceps brachii and quadriceps femoris, the FMA scores of upper and lower limbs and the MBI scores were higher than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusions:TCM massage is effective in the treatment of spastic hemiplegia after ischemic stroke. It can reduce the degree of limb spasm, improve the muscle strength, and further improve the limb motor function and daily living self-care ability. Moreover,it is superior to simple routine rehabilitation training.
