Application effects of biological amniotic membrane covering combined with autologous limbal stem cell transplantation in patients with pterygium excision
Objective:To observe application effects of biological amniotic membrane covering combined with autologous limbal stem cell transplantation in patients with pterygium excision. Methods:A prospective study was conducted on 76 patients with pterygium admitted to this hospital from January 2021 to February 2024.According to the random envelope method, they were divided into study group and control group,38 cases in each group. The control group was treated with autologous limbal stem cell transplantation combined with pterygium excision, while the study group was combined with biological amniotic membrane covering on the basis of those of the control group. The cure rate, the recurrence rate, the clinical related indexes(corneal epithelial repair time, suture removal time),the visual acuity before and after the surgery, the astigmatism index[corneal astigmatism, surface asymmetry index(SAI)]levels, the inflammatory factors in tears[interleukin-6(IL-6),interleukin-2(IL-2)]levels,and the incidence of complications at 3 months after the surgery were compared between the two groups. Results:The cure rate of the study group was 94.74%(36/38),which was higher than 78.95%(30/38)of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).There was no statistically significant difference in the recurrence rate between the two groups(P>0.05).The corneal epithelial repair time and the suture removal time in the study group were shorter than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).3 months after the surgery, the visual acuity of the study group was higher than that of the control group, the corneal astigmatism and SAI were lower than those of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).7 days after the surgery, the levels of IL-6 and IL-2 in tears of the study group were lower than those of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the incidence of complications between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusions:The biological amniotic membrane covering combined with autologous limbal stem cell transplantation in the patients undergoing pterygium excision can improve the cure rate and the visual acuity, improve the levels of clinical related indexes, and reduce the levels of astigmatism indexes and tear inflammatory factors. Moreover,it is superior to simple autologous limbal stem cell transplantation combined with pterygium excision.
