Influencing factors of empowerment ability of primary caregivers of elderly diabetic patients with post-stroke hemiplegia
Objective:To analyze influencing factors of empowerment ability of primary caregivers of elderly diabetic patients with post-stroke hemiplegia. Methods:A cross-sectional study was conducted on the main caregivers of 216 elderly diabetic patients with post-stroke hemiplegia admitted to the hospital from March 2019 to April 2022. The current situation of the empowerment ability of the main caregivers of the elderly diabetic patients with post-stroke hemiplegia[main caregiver empowerment measurement (MCEM)]was analyzed. Multivariate linear regression analysis was used to analyze the influencing factors of the empowerment ability of the main caregivers of the elderly diabetic patients with post-stroke hemiplegia. Results:The total score of MCEM in the main caregivers of the elderly patients with diabetes mellitus complicated with post-stroke hemiplegia was (160.08±12.14) points,of which the lowest was care knowledge and skills with an average score of (7.78±1.14) points, and the highest was relationship with caregivers with an average score of (21.55±2.25) points. The MCEM scores of the elderly diabetic patients with post-stroke hemiplegia with age ≥60 years old, completely unable to take care of themselves, education level of junior high school and below, average daily care time>6 h,no assistance from others during the care period, and average monthly family income<5000 yuan were lower, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The multivariate regression analysis showed that completely unable to take care of themselves, education level of junior high school and below, average daily care time>6 h,no assistance from others during the care period, and average monthly family income<5000 yuan were all risk factors affecting the empowerment ability of the main caregivers of the elderly diabetic patients with post-stroke hemiplegia (P<0.05). Conclusions:Completely unable to take care of themselves, junior high school and below, average daily care time>6 h,no assistance from others during the care period, and average monthly family income<5000 yuan are the risk factors affecting the empowerment ability of the main caregivers of the elderly diabetic patients with post-stroke hemiplegia.
