Effects of Metformin combined with Letrozole in treatment of patients with polycystic ovary syndrome
Objective:To observe effects of Metformin combined with Letrozole in treatment of patients with polycystic ovary syndrome. Methods:A prospective study was conducted on 82 patients with polycystic ovary syndrome admitted to the hospital from April 2021 to March 2023. According to the random number table method, they were divided into control group and study group,41 cases in each group. The control group was treated with Letrozole, while the study group was treated with Metformin on the basis of that of the control group. The clinical efficacy, the levels of sex hormone[follicle stimulating hormone (FSH),estradiol (E2),luteinizing hormone (LH)]and glucose metabolism indexes[fasting insulin (FINS),fasting blood glucose (FPG),insulin resistance index (HOMA-IR)],the ovarian volume before and after the treatment, and the incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results:The total effective rate of the study group was 95.12% (39/41),which was higher than 78.05% (32/41) of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). After the treatment, the FSH levels of the two groups were higher than those before the treatment, and that in the study group was higher than that in the control group;the levels of E2 and LH in the two groups were lower than those before the treatment, and those in the observation group was lower than those in the control group;and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The FINS levels of the two groups were lower than those before the treatment, and that in the study group was lower than that in the control group;the levels of FPG and HOMA-IR in the two groups were lower than those before the treatment, and those in the study group was lower than those in the control group;and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The left and right ovarian volumes of the two groups were smaller than those before the treatment, those in the study group were smaller than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). However, there was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups (P>0.05). Conclusions:Metformin combined with Letrozole in the treatment of the patients with polycystic ovary syndrome can improve the total effective rate of treatment, improve the levels of sex hormone and glucose metabolism indexes, and reduce the ovarian volume. Moreover,it is superior to simple Letrozole treatment.
