Comparison of effects of conventional 4K laparoscopic and high-definition laparoscopic totally extraperitoneal inguinal hernia repair in treatment of elderly patients with inguinal hernia
Objective:To compare effects of conventional high-definition laparoscopic and 4K laparoscopic totally extraperitoneal inguinal hernia repair (TEP) in treatment of elderly patients with inguinal hernia. Methods:The clinical data of 92 elderly patients with inguinal hernia admitted to this hospital from September 2022 to September 2023 were retrospectively analyzed. According to different treatment methods, they were divided into control group and study group,46 cases in each group. The control group was treated with conventional high-definition laparoscopic TEP,while the study group was treated with 4 K laparoscopic TEP. The perioperative indexes (operation time, intraoperative blood loss, bowel sound recovery time, defecation time and hospitalization time) levels, the postoperative pain degree[visual analogue scale (VAS)]score, the incidence of complications during hospitalization, and the recurrence rate after half a year of follow-up were compared between the two groups. Results:There was no significant difference in the operation time between the two groups (P>0.05). The intraoperative blood loss in the study group was less than that in the control group;the bowel sound recovery time, the defecation time and the hospitalization time were shorter than those in the control group;and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The VAS scores of the study group 2 and 3 days after the surgery were lower than those of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The incidence of complications in the study group was 4.35% (2/46),which was lower than 30.43% (14/46) in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). However, there was no significant difference in the postoperative recurrence rate between the two groups (P>0.05). Conclusions:4K laparoscopic TEP in the treatment of the elderly patients with inguinal hernia can reduce the intraoperative blood loss, shorten the bowel sound recovery time, the defecation time and the hospitalization time, and reduce the VAS scores and the incidence of complications. Moreover,it is superior to conventional high-definition laparoscopic TEP treatment.
