Comparison of effects of mini locking plate internal fixation and percutaneous screw internal fixation in treatment of patients with posterior ankle fractures
Objective:To compare effects of mini locking plate internal fixation and percutaneous screw internal fixation in treatment of patients with posterior ankle fractures. Methods:A prospective study was conducted on 88 patients with posterior ankle fractures admitted to the hospital from April 2022 to March 2024. According to the random number table method, they were divided into study group and control group,44 cases in each group. The study group was treated with mini locking plate internal fixation, while the control group was treated with percutaneous screw internal fixation. The clinical efficacy, the perioperative indicators (hospitalization time, fracture healing time, operation time, intraoperative blood loss) levels, the postoperative ankle function[American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society ankle and hindfoot score (AOFAS-AH)],the daily living ability[Barthel index (BI)],the pain degree[visual analogue scale (VAS)]score, and the incidence of postoperative complications were compared between the two groups. Results:The excellent and good rate of treatment in the study group was 95.45% (42/44),which was higher than 81.82% (36/44) in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The hospitalization time and the fracture healing time of the study group were shorter than those of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). There were no significant differences in the operation time and the intraoperative blood loss between the two groups (P>0.05). Three months after the surgery, the AOFAS-AH and BI scores of the two groups were higher than those 3 days after the surgery, and those in the study group were higher than those in the control group;the VAS scores of the two groups were lower than those 3 days after the surgery, and that in the study group was lower than that in the control group;and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Further, the incidence of complications in the study group was lower than that in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusions:Mini locking plate internal fixation can improve the excellent and good rate of treatment, the AOFAS-AH scores and the BI scores, shorten the hospitalization time and the fracture healing time, and reduce the VAS scores and the incidence of complications in the patients with posterior ankle fractures. Moreover,it is superior to percutaneous screw internal fixation.
