The equity of rural health resource allocation in central China
Objective To analyze the allocation status and equity of rural health resources in the central region of China and to provide reference for the balanced development of rural medical and health services.Meth-ods We collected data on rural health resources in 8 provinces located in the central region of China from 2015 to 2019 and used indices such as the Theil index, aggregation degree, and concentration index to analyze the fairness of rural health resources in central China. Results From 2015 to 2019,there was a declining trend in the total number of rural doctors and health workers in the central region, with a more significant decrease compared to the decline in the rural population. The overall fairness of rural health resource allocation in the central region was rel-atively good,as indicated by the Theil index for rural doctors, health workers, and village clinics based on popula-tion and geographical dimensions, ranging from 0.0099 to 0.1377 and 0.0209 to 0.1271,respectively.The main reasons for inequality were primarily economic factors and geographical distribution. Conclusions There is still a imbalance in the allocation of rural health resources in central China, and the fairness of resource allocation based on population is better than that based on geographical area.It is necessary to continuously strengthen the role of the government in the allocation of rural healthcare resources, implement integrated management of rural health-care,comprehensively guarantee the income of rural doctors, and promote the construction of a compact county medical community to promote the balanced development of village-level health resources in all regions.
