Risk attitudes,household characteristics,and health insurance choices:A case analysis of Nanjing,Jiangsu
Objective To sort out the factors that have impact on residents'preference for purchasing commercial health insurance and to explore the reasons behind them,in order to provide practical suggestions which can improve the development of commercial health insurance.Methods A total of 314 participants were included.A sample survey was conducted among residents in Nanjing City of Jiangsu Province,and then data a-nalysis was made based on the survey results.Results As for the risk attitude factors,the satisfaction with loans,stocks,and social insurance had a significant impact on the purchase of commercial health insurance.As for household characteristics,there were significant differences in household registration type,experience in financial management activities,and whether one has financial knowledge.Loans(OR=1.927,95%CI=1.064-3.491),stock activities(OR=2.375,95%CI=1.251-4.510),satisfaction with social security(OR=2.226,95%CI=1.193-4.155),and having had a financial education(OR=2.439,95%CI=1.367-4.350)all had a positive impact on the purchase of commercial health insurance.Conclusions Commercial insurance companies need to enhance health education among the public under the guidance of relevant policies.Moreover,they should catego-rize the demand of commercial health insurance,in which way they are able to provide more personalized services.And meanwhile they can build a health insurance industry chain,and fundamentally ameliorate the current imper-fect development of commercial health insurance in China.
