Effect of net-house cultivation on growth of and occurrence of pests and diseases of citrus in Huizhou of Guangdong Province
Citrus Huanglongbing(HLB)is a devastating disease in citrus production, mainly spread by Asian citrus psyllid. There is no effective control chemical at present. In order to control the HLB through control-ling the spread of Asian citrus psyllid(Diaphorina citri Kuwayama),the cultivation of citrus under insect-proof screen is a sustainable way of planting citrus.Shatangju citrus orchards in the endemic area of HLB in Huizhou,Guangdong Province were covered with insect-proof screens from January 2020 to February 2021,with uncovered orchards as control. The tree vigor, occurrence of citrus D.citri,HLB and other pests,tempera-ture and humidity of the covered orchards and control were investigated and the differences were analyzed. The results showed that compared with control,insect-proof screen cultivation was beneficial to the improvement of tree vigor without adverse effect on yield. The insect-proof screens mainly influenced the humidity. The relative humidity in the insect-proof screen house was increased by 1.96 and 1.81 percentage points in May and July, respectively, and de-creased by 6.73 and 7.20 percentage points in October and November, respectively. The insect-proof screen cultiva-tion can reduce the varieties of citrus pests, the number of Asian citrus psyllids and the condition of Huanglongbing disease, but it could increase the number of whitefly throughout the year and cause the outbreak of citrus red mite(Panonychus citri McGregor)in autumn(October to November).
