Preliminary report on breeding of a superior line of hybrid citrus Jinyuegan mandarin
Jinyuegan mandarin is a new hybrid strain selected from a cross between Kiyomi and Egan No.1 ponkan,with strong cold-resistance,less seeds,high sugar content,strong flavor and aroma.The tree vigor of this line was moderate with relatively upright posture.The line sprouted in early March,bloomed in mid and late April,and matured from mid November to late November in Wuhan.The average single fruit weight of Jinyuegan was 92.86 g with a maximum weight of 115.00 g.The fruit shape was spheroid with shape index of 0.96.The surface of the fruit was orange red with deep orange color flesh and few seeds.The content of the total soluble solids was 14.6%with titratable acid of 0.98%and vitamin C of 44.5 mg/100 g.The fruit of Jinyuegan was crispy texture with a proper sweet/sour taste and special aroma,and easy peeling.It is early bearing with high and stable yield,and improved cold resistance,which is suitable for production in the main citrus production areas in Hubei.
