Effects of low temperature in early Spring in South China on floral organ frost inju-ry and fruit setting rate of Chinese cherry cultivars
After the occurrence of early Spring frost damage in Yuyao,Ningbo,Zhejiang Province, the effects of cultivar,fruit-bearing shoot, cultivation mode, and measures of prevention freeze on damage of Chinese cherry were analyzed by investigating the organs and fruit setting of three Chinese cherry cultivars, namely Li-anglonghong,Duanbing and Heizhenzhu. The results showed that low temperature in early Spring in South China caused a certain degree of frost damage to the flora organs of tested Chinese cherry cultivars with obvi-ous symptoms of frost damage in flowers and buds. The degree of frost damage to flora organs and fruit setting rate of cherry were correlated with the factors such as variety, cultivation mode, fruiting branch type and freeze prevention measures.Liangnonghong showed relatively weak cold resistance and a relatively low fruit setting rate. The frost damage of flora organs could be avoided by the facility cultivation mode in greenhouse, while the frost damage of flora organs could be effectively reduced by the cultivation mode of rain shelter. The freezing injury of flora organs of different types of fruiting branches from severe to light was as following:long fruiting branches>intermedium fruiting branches>short fruiting branches. For cherry plants cultivated in open fields, timely spraying of antifreeze agent had the effect of reducing frost damage.
