Aggressive angiomyxoma of the perineum:a case report and literature review
Objective To explore the clinical features, current status of diagnosis and treatment, and prognosis of aggressive angiomyxoma(AAM)of the perineum,to improve clinicians'understanding of this disease. Methods We retrospectively analyzed the ancillary examination and pathological results of a case of male perineal AAM admitted to our hospital in November 2023,and reviewed the literature. Results The patient presented with perineal distension and pain. The results of magnetic resonance imaging suggested that the tumor was more likely to be a malignant tumor from the stroma.Perineal mass resection was performed, postoperative pathology suggested AAM,and no recurrence was found after 4 months of follow-up.The literature of 31 patients with pelvic, perineal and inguinal AAM were analyzed, including 24 females and 7 males. The onset time ranged from 3 weeks to 12 years. Most patients had no special clinical symptoms. All patients underwent surgical treatment and 10 of them were given adjuvant treatment after surgery. The follow-up showed that 3 patients had postoperative recurrenc. Conclusion Perineal AAM is a rare soft tissue tumor, mainly manifested as perineal pain and discomfort.Confirmation of the diagnosis usually relies on pathologic examination, and the main treatment is complete surgical excision and long-term follow-up.
