Methylprednisolone in the Treatment of Acute Spontaneous Urticaria Induced Hypokalemic Periodic Paralysis:Two Cases Report
Urticaria is a common immunologically mediated disease in dermatology departments. When symptoms are severe, systemic corticosteroids are often used.It is rare to treat urticaria-associated hypokalemic periodic paralysis(HPP)with conventional doses of corticosteroids in clinical practice. Here,we report two cases in which intravenous methylprednisolone treatment for acute urticaria, combined with hyperthyroidism, induced HPP.This highlights the importance of thorough medical history inquiry in clinical practice.Clinicians should be cautious when administering corticosteroids to patients with hyperthyroidism or other conditions predisposing them to HPP,as corticosteroids may induce HPP.
