Research on the Current Situation and Related Factors of Adolescents'Social and Emotional Competence Development:A Preliminary Exploration of the"Addition"Issue After Student Burden Reduction
By using the survey data of Suzhou in SESS(2018-2020),based on the"Big Five Personality Model"of students'social and emotional compe-tence,this study aimed to comprehensively analyze the development of the social and emotional competence of Chinese adolescents, and explore its relationship with antecedents including parenting styles and socioeconomic status, and outcome variables such as students'interpersonal sense of security, school adapta-tion,and school bullying. This study found that:firstly, there were significant age and gender differences in the development status of students'social and emo-tional competence;secondly, both individual and family factors predicted the de-velopment level of students'social and emotional competence to variant degrees;thirdly, the development of students'social and emotional competence significantly predicted their self-evaluated interpersonal security and school adaptation, and was significantly and negatively correlated with their school bullying experiences.Based on these results, this study discussed the relevant research findings from three as-pects:to consider individual differences in students'social and emotional compe-tence from a rational perspective,to pay active attention to the diverse stakeholders involved in fostering students'social and emotional competence, and to fully recog-nize the positive role of students'social and emotional competence;proposed spe-cific suggestions for the cultivation of social and emotional competence in adoles-cents;and offered preliminary insights into the"addition"issue after the reduc-tion of students'academic burden in China's compulsory education stage.
