How Do Practical Supervisors Enhance the Competence Development of Professional Master's Degree Students?——An Analysis Based on the Data of the National Survey of Professional Master's Degree Graduates
Supervisors play a pivotal role in the development of postgraduate students.Meanwhile, the integration of practical and academic supervisors, known as the"dual-supervisor system",is a key feature in the training of profes-sional degree postgraduates.Drawing upon the College Impact Model, this article presents an empirical analysis of the influence of practice supervisors on the com-petence development of professional master's degree graduates, utilizing 2021 Na-tional Survey Data of Professional Master's Degree Graduates.Findings reveal that practical supervisors significantly enhanced the competence development of students, with notable variations across different competencies.External(off-campus)practical supervisors,as opposed to on-campus ones, had a more pro-nounced influence on student development. In disciplines like management and medicine, such effect was even more significant.Further, there was a positive correlation between the frequency of practical supervision and overall competence development, particularly in areas of professional competencies and industry knowledge.Based on these findings, the study recommends expanding the pool of practical mentors, enhancing mentorship quality, and fostering better supervisor-student communication.
