Nationalism has been the force for the development of modernization and national rejuve-nation since modern times.It forms the conceptual framework for the dissemination and acceptance of Marxism in China as well as the birth and development of the Communist Party of China.The evolution of nationalism in connotations and types during modern China has made up the conceptual prerequisite for the acceptance of foreign thoughts,especially of Marxism.It has also influenced the manifestation and essential contents of Chinese Marxism.Not only the close relations between mod-ern Chinese nationalism and Marxism have the revolutionary history of the Communist Party of China and the conceptual evolution of"the Chinese Nation"revealed,but also the practical signifi-cance of mutual agitations and influences between both of them in the concrete social and historical context.Therefore,the historical investigation and theoretical reflection on the issues of relation-ship between Marxism and nationalism in modern Chinese context can have important theoretical and practical significance for exploring the development of Chinese modernization and the status of Marxism in modern world.
