Digital Transformation,Labor Income Share,and Technological Premium:A Supply-Chain Perspective
The rapid development of digital economy has transformed the allocation of labor re-sources,leading to structural changes in the labor market. Its impact is so profound that its extends far beyond the enterprises directly engaged in digital transformation. This article adopts a supply chain perspective and, based on the sample of A-share listed companies from 2012 to 2019,empiri-cally finds that the digital transformation of suppliers significantly enhances the labor income share of customer enterprises. The mechanism analysis reveals that digital transformation has a peer effect in the supply chain network as downstream companies learn from suppliers in advancing digitali-zation.On the other hand, the customer enterprises need to screen the effectiveness of suppliers'digital transformation.Even if they do not implement digital transformation themselves, they will be affected by suppliers.Through these two channels, the digital transformation of suppliers has in-creased the average wages and the proportion of highly skilled and highly educated talent hired by customers. While enhancing the labor income share,it has also widened the wage gap between high-er-skilled and lower-skilled labors.
