Reconceptualizing the"Mobile Privatization"in a New Media Era:Centering on Williams,Benjamin,and Virilio
Developed in his historicizing critique of television,Williams'concept of Mobile Privati-zation has implications for the understanding of any new form of media in the capitalist mode of pro-duction.In this regard,Benjamin's spatial criticism developed from his philosophy of history and Virilio's accelerated aesthetics based on the optics theory have brought the theoretical effects of this concept to the front. While highlighting the ultimate determinism of the mode of production, the theoretical starting point of Mobile Privatization is the sublation of technological determinism. This understanding allows us to see through the ideological fantasy of technological fetishism,on the one hand, and to further understand the technological cognition that belongs to socialist modernity,on the other.
