Leaf Water Potential of Populus euphratica in the Ejin Oasis
Based on the data observed by WP4 Dewpoint Potential Meter at the Ejin Oasis,we mainly analyzed the daily and monthly variations in leaf water potential of Populus euphratica, and its relationship with impact factors. Results showed that it was a V-curve of the daily variation in leaf water potential of P.euphratica.The daily average value was 2.59±0.30 MPa and the minimums appear at 13:00 mostly. The monthly variation increased firstly and then decreased. The monthly average value was 2.44±0.30MPa.As far as morphological difference was connected, trees with younger ages had higher leaf water potential.Leaves on the upper branches had lower water potential and vice versa.Water potentials of the oval leaves exceeded the lanceolate leaves as a whole. As far as environmental and plant physiological factors were connected, correlation analysis showed that there were highly significant negative linear correlations between leaf water potential and air temperature, vapor pressure deficit and transpiration rate. The correlation coefficients were-0.87,-0.69 and-0.88,respectively.Highly significant quadratic polynomial correlations were between leaf water potential and relative humidity and photosynthetic rate. The correlation coefficients were 0.85 and 0.92 in sequence. The study may provide theory guidance for better understanding of water stress and drought-resistance mechanism to of P.euphratica to some extent.
