In 2011,the redwood silver-inlaid lacquerware from Weifang,Shandong,was included in the third batch of national intangible cultural heritage lists.It has been praised as"one of the finest examples of traditional Chinese craftsmanship"and has often been presented as a national gift to foreign dignitaries,showcasing the exquisite craftsmanship of a great nation and the unique features of the Chinese people.However,in stark contrast,the domestic market for redwood silver-inlaid lacquerware is disheartening,with almost no interest from consumers.To better integrate redwood silver-inlaid lacquerware into modern life,it is essential to find new pathways while preserving its original craftsmanship.This article argues that the key to innovation for redwood silver-inlaid lacquerware lies in re-designing traditional decorative patterns from a modern design perspective,imbuing them with contemporary spirit to bring new life into this traditional art form.
