Objective To study the clinical efficacy of arthroscopic debridement combined with high tibial osteot-omy for knee osteoarthritis treatment in elderly patients. Methods 94 elderly patients with knee osteoarthritis, admitted to Kaifeng People's Hospital between April 2020 and April 2022,were enrolled as the research subjects, divided into study group(n=47)and control group(n=47)based on the treatments they received.Patients in the study group underwent arthroscopic debridement combined with high tibial osteotomy, whereas patients in the control group received arthroscopic debridement alone. The length of stay, pain intensity, knee joint function, and quality of life of patients were compared between the two groups. Results In the study group the length of stay was markedly longer compared with the control group(t=4.451,P<0.001).Six months after surgery, patients got notably lower visual analogue scale(VAS)scores and considerably higher Lysholm scores in the study group compared with the control group(t=11.199 and 10.774,both P<0.001),and all 36-item short form health survey(SF-36)measurements for patients in the study group were significantly higher than those in the control group(t = 3.330,3.527,3.350,3.682,3.633,3.514,3.473 and 3.410,all P =0.001).Conclusion Compared with the alone application of arthroscopic debridement, the combined application of arthro-scopic debridement and high tibial osteotomy, though may result in a longer length of stay for elderly patients with knee oste-oarthritis,can significantly reduce patients'long-term pain, accelerate the recovery of knee joint function, and enhances their quality of life.
