Effects of LED Lights at Different Wavelengths on the Growth,Development and Reproduction of Eutectona machaeralis(Lepidoptera:Crambidae)
Eutectona machaeralis mainly feed on teak,a precious tree species. The effects of different wavelength LED light sources on the growth, development, and reproduction of E.machaeralis were measured by exposing the insects tof six LED light sources,380 nm,450 nm,530 nm,600 nm,650 nm,and white(composite light:LL).The results showed that different wavelengths of LED light had no significant effect on the egg hatching rate and adult emergence rate of E.machaeralis, but significantly reduced the pupation rate, with the pupation rate at 380 nm light the lowest.White light and 450 nm light significantly prolonged the egg duration. The larval duration, pupal duration and generation duration of different wavelength light treatment groups were respectively longer than those of the control group. The 380 nm light significantly shortened the adult duration, while the other wavelength light treatments prolonged the adult duration. The mating rate of 380 nm(12%)and 450 nm(16%)treatment group was significantly lower than that of the control group(68%).Under different wavelength light sources, the fecundity of E.machaeralis was significantly reduced.Under white light irradiation, the fecundity of E.machaeralis was the lowest(18.96±1.92 eggs/female),and the pre-oviposition period was the longest(6.67±0.21 d).In addition, under white light irradiation, the weight of female and male pupae was significantly reduced. The results indicate that LED light sources of six wavelengths can prolong the development of E.machaeralis, reduce the pupation rate and pupal weight. Moreover, they significantly inhibit the reproduction of E.machaeralis, with light of white,380 nm and 450 nm having the most significant effects.
