Management of mesh infection after pelvic floor reconstruction surgery
Mesh infection is a relatively rare compli-cation after pelvic floor reconstruction surgery,with a hidden disease course and often accompanied by mesh exposure,extrusion,or perforation into adjacent organs.Mesh type,the interaction between the mesh and the body,the colonization of vaginal bacterial flora and the surgeon's operation might contribute to the mesh in-fection.Once cellulitis,abscess,sinus/fistula formation occur,treatment is difficult and requires comprehen-sive evaluation revolving pelvic MR.Surgical inter-vention and multidisciplinary team support are often required.Choosing the appropriate mesh and surgical method,avoidance intraoperative injury,precise he-mostasis,using antibiotics,and uterus preservation are effective preventive measures.
