Preparation and Characterization of MgO-Nd2Zr2O7 Composite Ceramics used as Inert Matrix of Fuel
To obtain MgO-Nd2Zr2O7 composite ceramic inert fuel matrix with high compactness, small grain size and two uniformly dispersed crystalline phases. The ordered P-type Nd2Zr2O7 pyrochlore was primarily synthesized by the sol-gel method using Nd(NO3)3·6H2O and C12H28O4Zr as raw materials, and then MgO-Nd2Zr2O7 composite ceramics were synthesized by mixing MgO.The effects of chemical components, sintering time and sintering temperature on the phase composition, grain size and densification of the composite ceramics were investigated via XRD and SEM-EDS,respectively.The results showed that Nd2Zr2O7 pyrochlore with good crystallization could be successfully synthesized by the sol-gel method at 1200 ℃ for 10 h.In addition,MgO-Nd2Zr2O7 composite ceramics with high density and uniform grain distribution could be prepared at 1500 ℃ for 24 h.
