Hardness/wear Resistance of Ceramic Glazes Improved by Graphene Oxide
Graphene oxide(GO),as a derivative of graphene, possesses exceptionally strong mechanical properties and abundant oxygen-containing functional groups. In this work,GO was used to modify ceramic glazes, and the effect of GO content on the hardness and wear resistance of ceramic glazes was investigated. The research results indicate that the optimal amount of GO is 0.05 wt%,which increases the matte ceramic glazes hardness to 11.4%(from 642.9 Hv to 716.3 Hv)and reduces wear from 0.12g to 0.04 g.However, there is no significant improvement in the performance of the glossy ceramic glaze.Further analysis through XRD,TG-DSC,and EDS reveals that the glazes performance enhancement is due to the ability of GO to induce the precipitation of SiO2 crystals with higher hardness, strengthen the glass network structure, inhibit the crystallization of the sodium feldspar phase, and reduce the porosity of the glaze. This paper revealed the mechanism by which GO affects the properties of ceramic glazes, and this is of great significance for the application of GO in ceramics.
