Study on Color Difference Method for Measuring Transparency of Ceramic Glaze Layer
Due to the difficulty in quantitatively measuring the transparency of the ceramic glaze layer,a color difference method to assess the transparency of the ceramic glaze layer was studied in this study.By adding crystals such as mullite, zirconium silicate, and tin dioxide to transparent glazes, glazing, drying, and firing on green body, ceramic glaze samples with different degrees of transparency were prepared. The effects of crystal type and addition amount, glaze thickness, base color of the green body and glaze surface condition on color difference were investigated separately. The results show that there is a good linear relationship between the color difference and the crystal addition amount. At the same time, the greater the crystal refractive index, the greater the color difference due to the scattering of light by the crystals.Additionally, with the glaze thickness increased, the color difference increased rapidly, which is attributed to the increase in large air bubbles caused by the increased thickness. The base color of the green body had minimal impact on the color difference, while surface roughness after glaze erosion had a certain effect on the color difference. The method is simple, adaptable and can be used to evaluate the transparency of ceramic glazes.
