Study on the Salvaged Bluish White Porcelain Ladies'Pillow from the Shinan ship in South Korea
By comparing the attire in the salvaged bluish white porcelain lady pillow from the Shinan ship with the clothing of women in paintings during the Song and Yuan Dynasties,it can be seen that the former is not a robe but a cross-collar long shirt, also called beizi. This type of clothing was used during the Song and Yuan Dynasties and cannot be used as a basis for determining the age of this bluish white porcelain lady pillow.Combined with recent publications and other archaeological excavation data,it can be proved that the bluish white porcelain lady pillow from Jingdezhen Kiln, salvaged by a Shinan ship, was not produced in the Yuan Dynasty or the middle and late Southern Song Dynasty, but rather during the late Northern Song Dynasty to the early Southern Song Dynasty. In addition, according to the organizational relationship of the Shinan ship and the cultural exchange between China and Japan in the early 14th century, especially the differences in the attitude of the samurai class towards the Song and Yuan cultures during the Kamakura shogunate period,we infer that the bluish white porcelain lady pillows salvaged from the Shinan ship from Jingdezhen Kiln in the Song Dynasty were probably collected as a precious"Tang object"by Japanese monks on behalf of the samurai class.
