Early China,an important foundation and source of modem Chinese art and culture,has cultivated a rich and huge cul-tural system.By analyzing and sorting out concepts and research contents related to early China,design culture and design civili-zation,this paper aims to understand the research status and progress of early Chinese design culture,puts forward the basic model of design culture research and carry out a research on early Chinese design culture studies from the perspective of painted pottery which is a great achievement of early Chinese handicraft culture and a representative of early Chinese design culture.Painted pottery design culture reflects the thinking evolution,image expression,tribal culture and aesthetic consciousness of pre-historic ancestors.
