Analysis of the Decorative Craftsmanship of Black-figured Pottery in Ancient Greece
Ancient Greek black-figured pottery, because of its unique decorative craftsmanship,is beautifully decorated with strong colour expression. However, its decorative technique is rarely known by the public. This paper takes Ancient Greek black-figured pottery as the research object, and adopts the iconographic method, logical reasoning method and comparative re-search method to explore its specific decorative process. It has been found that the two decorative methods, direct painting and window painting, both use clay containing iron oxide particles as the decorative pigment coating, forming a black glossy surface layer after firing, and the black decoration then forms a colour contrast with the brick red colour of the ceramic tiles, highlighting the decoration. The decorative design of black-figured pottery embodies the principle of adaptability of design, and brings inspi-ration to the creation of modern ceramic art.Ceramic art creation can explore more expressive possibilities with skilful and de-terministic materials or techniques.
