A Preliminary Study of the Mid-fifteenth Century Jingdezhen Folk Kiln Blue and White Stemwares
The archaeological findings from kiln sites reveal that blue and white stemwares were an important category of porcelain produced by folk kilns in Jingdezhen during the mid-15th century. After analyzing the distribution of these products, two conclusions can be drawn.Firstly, blue and white stemwares were primarily unearthed in significant political centers and commercial cities, with a minimal number found in remote areas and overseas sites.Secondly, the sites where these products were unearthed were concentrated in government offices, noble princes'residences, and similar institutions, while they were only sporadically found in tombs and ordinary living and workshop areas. These findings provide clues for analyzing the market attributes and social functions of blue and white stemwares during the mid-15th century.
