Enlarged vestibular aqueduct(EVA)is an autosomal recessive disease,with a wide range of clinical manifestations in audiology.The degrees of hearing loss range from mild to extremely severe,and can be characterized by delayed sensorineural hearing loss,fluctuating sensorineural hearing loss,or sudden sensorineural hearing loss,or mixed hearing loss,with tinnitus,vertigo,and balance disorders.This article describes the pathophysiologic mechanisms underlying the diversity of clinical manifestations of EVA audiology,and describes the main factors that current research has identified as influencing the clinical manifestations and progression of EVA.
