Theoretical Evolution and Paradigm Shift of Digital Humanities:From"Digital Approaches for Humanities Research"to"Humanities Research in the Post-digital Era"
For digital humanities and the traditional humanities disciplines,including linguistics,literature,history,and the arts,metaverse and the new generation AI technologies are emerging as potential drivers of what Kuhn calls a"paradigm revolution".By sorting out the development context of digital humanities in China and abroad from the perspective of paradigm shift,the author puts forward the stages of the development of digital humanities in China and abroad respectively,and analyzes the theoretical evolution of the development of digital humanities abroad and the generative mechanism of the transformation of discourse and paradigm from humanities computing to digital humanities from two aspects:the formation and evolution of digital methods and methodologies of humanities research.By examining the paradigm shift of China's digital humanities from traditional humanities to humanities computing,from humanities computing to digital humanities,and from data-driven to AI-driven,this paper tries to answer the question of what kind of humanistic research is needed in the post-digital era marked by the widespread application of metaverse and new generation of AI technology.The blueprints and research framework of digital humanities in the post-digital era are preliminarily planned.The following conclusions are drawn:First,the essence and commonness of the paradigm shift of digital humanities abroad are reflected in the shift of digital methods from data modeling to interface criticism,and the shift of methodology from computing thinking to the simultaneous application of computing thinking and critical thinking and mainly critical thinking;Second,China's digital humanities have not fully completed the shift from humanities computing to digital humanities,and a lot of practical work which is still centered on data modeling,the methodology is still dominated by computing thinking,and critical thinking is not used enough;Third,the revolution of scientific research paradigm that may be triggered by the new generation of AI is expected to solve the existing dilemma in the field of digital humanities dominated by the data-driven fourth paradigm,but certain conditions must be met;Fourth,digital humanities research in the post-digital era should attach importance to the application of critical thinking,incorporate new humanistic problems generated by technology into the scope of digital humanities research,re-understand the relationship between humanities and technology,and take technology not only as a method but also as a research object.1 fig.3 tabs.48 refs.
