Peer Effect of Physical Exercise among Community Residents in China—An Empirical Analysis Based on Data from the Chinese General Social Survey
Based on the data from the Chinese General Social Survey, the peer effect and effect-ing mechanism of physical exercise among community residents in China were analyzed after excluding exogenous effects, related effects, and herd effects. The results indicated that:1)There was a peer effect in the physical exercise among Chinese residents. The higher the propor-tion of physical exercise participation in the community, the more likely individuals were to par-ticipate in physical exercise regularly.2)The elderly,less-educated and rural residents were more sensitive to peer reactions.3)The peer effect were mainly realized through the improve-ment of sports public services in the community, the interaction of community residents and the increase in familiarity during the interaction. It is suggested that relevant departments should fully consider the impact of the peer effect and the age, education, and urban-rural differences of residents when formulating physical policies,to fully utilize the peer effect, expand the social multiplier of physical exercise and achieve the goal of national fitness.
