Assessing the Influence of the Sports Event Landscape Quality on Tourists'Destination Image Perception and Behavioral Intentions——An Empirical Analysis of the Shanghai Marathon
This study develops an operational concept of landscape quality for marathon events based on visual landscape theory.Through a questionnaire survey conducted with participants of the Shanghai Marathon, the paper investigates how the quality of sports event landscape impacts tourists'destination image perception and behavioral intentions. The results show that the quali-ty of sports event landscape has significant positive effect on tourists'destination image percep-tion,but has no significant direct effect on their behavioral intentions.Nevertheless,it can indi-rectly promote behavioral intentions through tourists'destination image perception. The study demonstrates that sports event landscape plays a crucial role in shaping the image of destinations. It also reveals that leveraging the tourism impact of event landscape is to cultivate a positive per-ception of the destination image among tourists. The managers of sports events and destinations should attach importance to the design and management of the quality of sports event land-scape.Only by transforming the environmental elements of sports event landscape into sports tourists'benefical perception of destination image can the promotional role of sports event in destination tourism development be fully realized.
