Foreign Current Development of HBIM(Historic Building Information Modelling)for Built Heritage
In contemporary times, the application of emerging digital technologies is crucial for the protection and documenta-tion of cultural heritage. The application of relevant technologies facilitates the achievement of goals such as reducing the risk of cultural heritage damage, formulating preventative protection plans, realizing comprehensive lifecycle recording and supervision of cultural heritage, and ensuring the sustainability of cultural heritage protection. As an internationally advanced organization in the field of cultural heritage conservation with digital methods, the International Committee of Architectural Photogrammetry(CIPA)has been actively dedicated to gathering and disseminating cutting-edge research results and practical experiences in the protection and documentation of cultural heritage since its establishment in 1968.The CIPA2023 Symposium is the first offline gathering convened by the organization in the post-pandemic era. This symposium not only provides a platform for academic communications but also brings together a wealth of the-state-of-art research advances, innovative data collection methods, and effective solutions to complex challenges.Historic Building Information Modelling(HBIM)is the core and connection of digital preservation of cultural heritage.Whether it is a single historical building,a group of historical buildings,large-scale archaeological sites,or widespread linear cultural heritage, the comprehensive use of HBIM for their protection is widely regarded as efficient, precise, and of immense potential. This paper,by reviewing the contributions of foreign scholars in HBIM research presented at the CIPA2023 Symposium, publications from the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing(ISPRS),and Web of Science(WoS),explores the latest research developments of HBIM in four aspects:modelling complex structures and components;cultural heritage management, monitoring, and restoration;the construction of accessible resources;and the exploration of the application of digital twin and deep learning. This review aims to introduce the forefront of foreign HBIM research and applications to the domestic peers in the field of cultural heritage conservation and digitization.
