Cultural Communication between Ancient East Asia and Ancient Egypt
There are few studies on the cultural communication between ancient East Asia and ancient Egypt. This article com-pares and analyzes several examples, and finds that there are significant similarities in the architectural culture between ancient East Asia and ancient Egypt, which is reflected in the deep logic of spatial scale and organizational design, and confirms the existence of a long-term and close cultural communication between the two places, which provides a new reference for understanding the history of cultural exchange between the East and the West. The first group of examples is Yin Xu,Thebes(the religious holy place of ancient Egypt)and Amarna(the capital of the New Kingdom of Akhenaten). At the macro level, the planning structure of Yin Xu and Thebes has obvious similarities. On both sides of a river, there are three groups of high-level buildings, including palaces, temples and tombs, with similar angles and corresponding axes, and it is likely that there is a symbolic meaning of communication. At the microcosmic level, the Xiaotun complex and Luxor Temple, the coffin chamber of tomb of King Xibeigang and the Pharaoh's tomb in King's Valley, and the Xibeigang mausoleum and Ama-rna altar constitute three groups of typical shape similar design.Taking this group of examples as the starting point, two later examples of architecture in Zhouyuan and Haojing show similar qualities. The second group of examples is the capital of Qin and Han dynasties and the buildings of Thebes,Amarna and Memphis in ancient Egypt. In the Qin and Han dynasties, the palace area and the mausoleum area still had the planning techniques of facing each other across the water and corresponding axes, and the meso and micro space design concepts of three palaces juxtaposition, multiple gates and"multiple paths"were similar to those of ancient Egypt. The design of mausoleums is particularly relevant.Ground ele-ments such as seal earth, mausoleum temple, sleeping hall, burial mound, causeway and"outer temple"all correspond one by one in form and even functions.Underground space is most obvious in similar large rock cave tombs. These similarities not only influence later generations, but also trace back to earlier examples. The third group of examples is the ancient Korean Peninsula, ancient Japan,Yin Xu,ancient Egypt for architecture comparison. The design of the Xiaodun Palace of Yin Xu adjacent similar to that of Luxor Temple influences the Baekje Palace in Wanggung-ri Site,Asuka Kyo,Japan, and the palace in Kyoto. The Huanbei Palace of Yin Xu,ancient Japanese temple which hall and tower in parallel, and Jongmyo of Joseon Dynasty share a similar horizontal courtyard design, which proves the inference that the Yinshang an-cient culture experienced gradual eastward spread. The two types of traditional Japanese architecture and its customs, represented by the Daijo-gu and Ise Jingu, are connected with the architectural space and customs of ancient Egyptian tombs and temples, suggesting that there may be more unique and direct cultural communication between them.
