Correlation Analysis Between Obesity Degree and Physical Condition in Elderly Women Aged 75 Years and Above
Objective To investigate the physical fitness of elderly women aged 75 and above with different obesity levels, and to explore the correlation between obesity and physical fitness. Methods A total of 339 elderly people in Beijing community from January to December 2018 were selected as the research subjects.According to the body mass index(BMI)stratification criteria of"WS/T 428-2013 Adult Weight Determination",the group was divided into normal group(n=112),overweight group(n=155)and obese group(n=72).The basic information was investigated, and test height, weight, lung capacity, grip strength,30 s sitting and standing up,back grabbing, chair sit-and-reach test,up and go test time and reaction time were tested. Results In this study, the overweight and obesity rates of elderly women were 45.72%and 21.24%,respectively.The lung capacity and back grabbing of the overweight and obese groups were lower than those of the normal group, while the up and go test time and reaction time were longer than those of the normal group(P<0.05).The chair sit-and-reach in obese group was lower than that in normal group(P<0.05).In the obese group, the back grabbing was lower than the overweight group, and the up and go test time was longer than the overweight group(P<0.05).Pearson's correlation analysis showed that lung capacity(r=-0.272,P<0.01),back grabbing(r=-0.434,P<0.01),chair sit-and-reach(r=-0.216,P<0.01)were negatively correlated with BMI,and up and go test time(r=0.321,P<0.01)and reaction time(r=0.273,P<0.01)were positively correlated with BMI.Conclusion With the increase of obesity, the cardiorespiratory function, flexibility, balance and reaction ability of the elderly women decreased significantly. The cardiorespiratory function, flexibility, balance and reaction ability were related to BMI.
