Analysis of Caries Related Risk Factors in Senile Stroke Patients
Objective To study caries related risk factors in senile stroke patients. Methods A total of 58 elderly stroke patients admitted to the People's Hospital of Jiangmen from January to December 2022 were selected as the observation objects(20 cases in the mild group,18 cases in the moderate group, and 20 cases in the severe group). The number distribution of caries among the enrolled patients was investigated, and the risk factors of caries among the senile stroke patients were analyzed. Results The total number of caries was 39 in the mild group,55 in the moderate group and 83 in the severe group, the number of caries increased with the severity of disease, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).In 1 day,the oral cleaning times of stroke patients were(3.12±1.06)times in mild group,(2.01±0.05)times in moderate group and(1.37±0.12)times in severe group. The number of oral cleaning decreased with the severity of the disease, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Fugl-Meyer assessment upper extremity scale(FMA-UE)was(36.69±2.81)points in mild group,(21.31±2.17)points in moderate group and(11.05±1.09)points in severe group. The difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).The score of mini-mental state examination(MMSE)in severe group was(9.62±1.75)points,which was lower than that in moderate group(19.18±1.06)points and mild group(26.34±2.88)points,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Upper limb dysfunction, cognitive dysfunction and oral cleaning frequency were the main risk factors for caries in stroke patients. Conclusion The reduced physical activity and cognitive impairment of stroke patients will affect their understanding of gum health.Meanwhile, patients with poor self-care ability cannot maintain and clean personal oral hygiene, resulting in an increase in the incidence of dental caries. Therefore, the caries status of stroke patients needs to be improved, and the oral health of stroke patients should be improved to reduce the progressive stroke caused by caries.
