Application of Orem's Self-Care Model in the Nursing of Patients With Diabetic Foot Ulcers
Objective To explore the application of Orem's self-care model in patients with diabetic foot ulcers and observe its impact on patients'recovery, infection rates and quality of life. Methods A total of 46 patients with diabetic foot ulcers treated in the department of endocrinology, the Affiliated Hospital of Putian University between September 2021 and May 2022 were selected for this study.Among them, divided into Orem self-care group and control group according to the random number table method, with 23 cases in each group. The control group received routine self-care education, while the Orem's self-care group received Orem's self-care model education.Blood glucose-related indicators, foot ulcer healing time, bacteria culture positivity, and quality of life scores were compared between the two groups before and after the intervention. Results Compared with the control group, the Orem self-care group significantly improved the fasting blood glucose,2-hour postprandial blood glucose, and glycated hemoglobin levels of patients(P<0.05).The healing time of foot ulcer wounds in the Orem self-care group was(32.74±5.24)days,which was significantly shorter than that in the control group(40.36±3.67)days,and the positive rate of wound bacteria was significantly reduced(P<0.05).Meanwhile,compared with the control group, the quality of life of patients in the Orem self-care group was significantly improved(P<0.05).Conclusion Orem's self-care model demonstrates a significant positive impact on the care of patients with diabetic foot ulcers, including improved blood glucose control, shortened healing time, reduced infection risk, and enhanced quality of life. This model provides a powerful tool for improving the care of diabetic foot ulcer patients, with the potential to alleviate their suffering, reduce healthcare costs, and enhance their overall recovery and quality of life.
