The Effects of Nutritional Support Combined With Whey Protein on Immune Function and Recovery in Severe Pneumonia
Objective To explore the effect of nutritional support combined with whey protein on immune function and rehabilitation process of patients with severe pneumonia. Methods A total of 90 cases of severe pneumonia treated at Nanping First Hospital from April 2022 to February 2024 were selected. The patients were divided into two groups based on different nutritional support treatment methods, with 45 cases in each group. The control group received routine nutritional support treatment, while the observation group received additional enteral intervention with whey protein. The pneumonia severity index, inflammatory factors, immune function indicators and the time to disappearance of major symptoms were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. Results The pneumonia severity index of the control group after 1 and 2 weeks of treatment was(85.67±11.98)and(79.45±10.34),respectively,the pneumonia severity index of the observation group after 1 and 2 weeks of treatment was(80.12±10.78)and(72.34±9.56),respectively,with statistical significance(P<0.05).Compared with the control group after treatment, the observation group had lower levels of C-reactive protein(CRP)and procalcitonin(PCT),and higher levels of CD3+,CD4+,and CD4+/CD8+,with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).The disappearance time of the main symptoms in the observation group was shorter than that in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion Nutritional support combined with whey protein in the treatment of patients with severe pneumonia can help improve the symptoms of pneumonia, reduce inflammatory reaction, improve immune function, and accelerate the rehabilitation process of patients.
