Survey on the Current Situation of Tobacco Epidemic Among Medical Students in Secondary Vocational Health Schools in Jieyang City in 2022
Objective To understand the current situation of tobacco epidemic among medical students in secondary vocational health school in Jieyang City,and provide implementation basis for the school to formulate smoking control strategies and measures. Methods A stratified cluster sampling method was used to select 570 students in Jieyang Health School in June 2022 to conduct a questionnaire survey,and analyze the tobacco use situation,the awareness rate of the survey subjects on smoking-related knowledge,the behavioral characteristics of smoking students,second-hand smoke exposure in schools and the publicity situation in schools. Results The current smoking rate of the survey subjects was 7.72%,which was generally lower than the current smoking rate of vocational school students in China reported in 2019 (14.7%). The current smoking rate among male students was 27.73%,which was higher than the reported smoking rate among male students in vocational schools in China in 2019 (23.3%). The awareness rate of smoking related knowledge was 68.10%. 42.11%,40.18%,and 31.05% of students saw someone smoking in the teaching building,dormitory,and playground,respectively. The smoking control environment,education and technical support,such as issuing school publications,posting posters or promotional prints,playing LED screens,bulletin boards,school official website,WeChat official account,and opening school health education courses,were relatively low. Conclusion Tobacco is still prevalent among medical students in vocational schools,with a high exposure rate to secondhand smoke. Tobacco control and knowledge dissemination still need to be strengthened,and the construction of a smoke-free environment in schools needs to be strengthened. Male students are the key population for intervention,and education and intervention work should start as soon as possible.
