Epidemiological Investigation of Metabolic Syndrome Among Mental Workers in Weifang
Objective To explore the epidemiology of metabolic syndrome(MS)among mental workers in Weifang based on the physical examination reports of 2 672 mental workers who underwent physical examination in the physical examination center of Weifang Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital. Methods The physical examination information of 2 672 persons who underwent physical examination in the physical examination center of Weifang Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January 2020 to December 2022 was collected, including 1 432 males and 1 240 females. The physical examination and laboratory test results were analyzed. Results Among the 2 672 physical examination personnel, there were 795 patients with MS,with a detection rate of 29.8%.Among the various combinations MS,the proportion of high triglycerides(TG),hypertension, and obesity types was the highest(12.7%).From a gender perspective, the detection rate for males was 42.2%,which was higher than the 15.4%for females, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).From an age perspective, there were 467 cases(45.6%)of MS in the middle-aged male group, which was higher than 137 cases(33.7%)in the young male group, and 157 cases(20.2%)of MS in the middle-aged female group, which was higher than 34 cases(7.3%)in the young female group, the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).The detection rates of obesity, high TG,hypertension, and impaired glucose tolerance(IGT)in the middle-aged male group were higher than those in the young male group, while the obesity, high TG,low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C),hypertension,and IGT in the middle-aged female group were higher than those in the young female group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).The proportion of high TG+hypertension+obesity was highest in both the middle-aged male group and the young male group. The combination with the highest detection rate in the young female group was HDL-C reduction+high TG+obesity(3.7%),and the highest detection rate in the middle-aged female group is HDL-C reduction+high TG+hypertension(7.1%).Conclusion The prevalence rate of metabolic syndrome among mental workers in Weifang City isrelatively high, and the prevalence rate of men is much higher than that of women. Therefore, various effective measures should be taken actively to reduce the prevalence rate of metabolic related diseases.
