Prevalence and influencing factors of slightly elevated blood pressure among children and adolescents in Jilin Province
Objective To understand the prevalence of slightly elevated blood pressure(SEBP)among primary and sec-ondary school students in Jilin, and explore the associated factors, providing a scientific basis for formulating targeted inter-vention strategies. Methods A total of 38 339 students from 108 primary and secondary schools in Jilin were selected for physical examination and questionnaire survey to investigate the status of high blood pressure by stratified cluster random sampling. The influencing factors of SEBP were analyzed by chi-square test and logistic regression. Results The overall prevalence of SEBP was 34.67%.Female(OR=0.705,95%CI:0.675-0.738),living in rural areas(OR=0.651,95%CI:0.621-0.682),low body mass index(BMI)(moderate to severe weight loss(OR=0.840,95%CI:0.716-0.984),mild weight loss(OR=0.707,95%CI:0.605-0.813),and being a non-only child(OR=0.931,95%CI:0.887-0.977)were the protective factors for SEBP,while high BMI[overweight(OR=1.660,95%CI:1.563-1.763;obesity(OR=3.430,95%CI:3.253-3.616)],never eating breakfast(OR=1.241,95%CI:1.121-1.374),and studying in a junior or senior high school[junior(OR=1.728,95%CI:1.637-1.824;general senior(OR=1.363,95%CI:1.284-1.447;vocational senior(OR=1.225,95%CI:1.108-1.355)]were the risk factors.Junior high school students were at highest risk of SEBP,and the risk was 1.728 times as high as that in primary school students. Conclusion The SEBP issue in children and adoles-cents in Jilin is serious. It is recommended to carry out regular blood pressure monitoring,so as to implement targeted inter-ventions such as weight management and healthy eating to reduce the prevalence of SEBP in these groups in the province.
