Development Trajectory and Association Factors of TCM Health Service Utilization among the Elderly in China
Objective:To explore the development and factors of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)for the elderly in China. Methods:Data were collected from China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study(CHARLS).A total of 3 371 elders were included.Mplus 8.0 was used to construct latent growth model to explore the development of TCM utilization among the elderly and the factors on the utility of TCM.Results:The unconditional model showed that utility of TCM in the elderly was in a curve-like upward trend. There were significant individual differences in the initial level and growth rate. The development trend of TCM health service utilization in the female elderly was significantly faster than the male(β= 0.016,P= 0.006).There were significant differences in the initial level of TCM utilization in urban and rural elderly(β=-0.038,P= 0.008).Utility of TCM in the elderly was negatively predicted in supplementary medical insurance(β=-0.042,P= 0.010).Income has a significant negative predictive effect on the utilization of TCM in the elderly;health status has a significant positive predictive effect. Conclusion:Use of TCM health services for the elderly is increasing and has a certain stickiness.Urban,female,low-income and elderly people with complementary medical care tend to use TCM health services;Multiple comorbidities are the main factors that increase the use of TCM health services.Suggestion:Targeted strategies will be expected to improve the utilization of TCM health services in the elderly; To improve the service capacity for older adults with comorbidity,it has taken the initiative to adapt to the development of ageing, improve service capacity of elderly comorbidities by rational allocation of TCM resources, strengthen personnel training, and support innovative research on TCM.
