Objective Human T lymphotropic virus (HTLV-Ⅰ / Ⅱ) is a kind of complex retrovirus and widely distributed throughout world. The corresponding information was reported in local area of China. This paper aims to investigate the infection status of human T lymphotropic virus among volunteer blood donors in Sheyang, and provide appropriate strategies for blood safety in this area. Methods HTLV-Ⅰ / Ⅱ antibody was detected in blood donors in Shenyang area by home-made double antigen sandwich ELISA kit in the first test. The positive blood samples in the first test were re-tested by double-hole retrial method. Then the seropositive samples were confirmed by RT-PCR or Western blot. Results A total of 9050 voluntary blood donors were detected from March to May in 2013,5 samples were suspected positive, but confirmed negative with RT-PCR or WB,the false positive rate was 0.06%.Conclusion The blood donors belong to the low-incidence and non-epidemic area of HTLV-Ⅰ / Ⅱ infection in Shenyang.Based on the analysis of the blood test cost and transfusion safety, leucodepletion treatment may be better to prevent the HTLV-Ⅰ / Ⅱ virus infection in blood transfusion.
